WTF: I get this sense of dislike and a one-sided impression of asians here. I know there's a shitload of us in UW and it gets annoying seeing asian after asian, but the interesting and non-conventional ones do exist!

  1. I don't understand why you just discriminated against your own race.

  3. Yo, here's the memo in case everyone missed it. UW is a very well known school in Canada and it also seems like a popular place to study for a lot of international students from China and the rest of Asia. And so, we're going to get a lot of Asian international students as well as a lot of students from the GTA area (where a large asian population exists). So, expect a large asian student body here at UW. If for some odd reason you don't like this layout, maybe you should go somewhere else?

  4. No problems with the population here. I just don't get all the attempts here at attacking someone's character because he/she is Asian. Are people just getting a lot of bad experiences with them or what?

  5. No, I think people are generalizing across the Asian population in UW because of a few negative examples these racist people like to point out.

What we should be doing is correcting the stereotypes and judgmental attitudes, not encouraging them and saying 'oh hey, but there's a few of us Asians that aren't like that'.

  6. ^ totally agreed. I hate self haters.

  7. A "few negative examples"? A FEW?? Are you serious, Asian girl? There are not a "few" negative examples. There are TONS. Know it, Asian girl ;)

  8. Most Asian girls don't look nice in UW. But if you do find a descent looking Asian girl, she can be one of the most beautiful and awesome people you've ever met. Most of my friends never get the chance to know the good ones, though.

  9. I'm an asian girl and I get this sense of dislike on this site too, but interestingly, all the non-asian people I've got to know on campus have been very nice and friendly to me and I make great friends with people of all races. So I have never ever got this sense of dislike in real life. I love all races, I'm not a hater, and I love being who I am =)

  10. I think a lot of people mean fobby individuals when they make their slurs. I know it's still not right, but just something I've noticed.

  11. Let's be honest here -

No one at UW actually likes FOBS except for FOBs themselves.

    Undisputed fact.

  12. you posted that elsewhere, 9:37. and no, that's not a fact.

and yeah, the OP isn't self-hating, but only re-establishing the stereotypes that s/he is trying to avoid by saying "interesting and non-conventional ones do exist" - jesus, so i'm only considered one of the "good" asians if i'm not "conventional"? screw that.

  13. ^ yes, that exactly means that you are a bad asian

  15. @6:45 - YOU SOME WHITEBOY? ;P Jerk. I would like to say I will fucking stab the next person that I think's being seriously racist. There's a lot of online racism from OMGUW and WTFUW but except for my sociology prof, I haven't personally encountered any overt racism from people in Waterloo...that I remember...but I would like to point out that despite your opinion that there are "TONS", you should look at the fact that Waterloo isn't Canada, it isn't it a real city and the number of negative examples you find here will not be a sliver of the actual Asian population.

It's late, I forget my point. Just don't hate on the Asians because you think there's too many of us. I'm in Arts and there're too many Caucasians in my classes. When I was in rez, my entire building was Caucasian. I go to DP, I'm surrounded by Caucasians.

    HEY LOOK -> you're cauc-ASIANS.

    :D

P.S. @ 7:01pm - When the hell was this WTF ever about "decent" or "nice-looking" Asian girls?

P.S. OP can define what "nonconventional" means and what makes him/her "nonconventional" and apparently oh-so-interesting.

  16. Hey lighten up =)

I'm not trying to glorify myself with that statement, but rather stating a general observation. All the weird ideas I got from here are just baffling b/c I assumed people nowadays would either be so indifferent to the number of asians that they'd eventually figure out they're not all "the same" (which is why I brought up the idea of non-conventional asians, b/c no one really IS a stereotype as I discovered in uni)-- or are mature enough not to make stupid associations.

Even if my initial statement suggests otherwise, I'm just trying to figure out where these ideas are coming from, not making any comparisons or to categorize b/w asians. I'm trying to see this in a neutral light, not "self-hating" or blindly re-affirming stereotypes.

Like that one post a while back... asian girls drag their feet when walking. Where did this come from?? How do they come up with these? lmao

  17. glad to hear where you are coming from is different to what is quite clearly implied from your original statement: "but the interesting and non-conventional ones do exist!"
