WTF: The lack of academic honesty at this university is simply ridiculous sometimes.

  1. No worse than any other university really.

  2. Please, elaborate.

  3. I imagine it's easier to be dishonest in a program, like say, Math, where something is usually either right or wrong. In a program that has lots of reports, proposals, essays, etc. it's much more difficult and less prevalent.

  4. Yeah. It's super easy to cheat on exams and everybody copies each other's assignments... but that's life... there's not much UW can do to fix it.

  5. Actually 6:28, it is easier to cheat in those classes. However, it is also easy to cheat on papers too...

    Relax, man

  6. ^ please elaborate.
and inform me what program you're in to tell me its easy to cheat in math/physics where 1 problem can be answered in more than 1 way and its a page long.
    please fucking tell me.

Because I Am fucking sure I can just look over to whoever is writing beside me and copy an entire page.

  8. 11:16,

You're coming off as a fool. I don't think you understand the principles of objectivity and subjectivity...

A math equation and solution is considered objective - there's generally one way that's the best to find the answer - EVERYONE in the class who does this equation are generally going to have it in the exact, or extremely similar fashion.

An essay (which do get scanned through programs like Turn It In) is subjective. Each student has unique ideas, and each paper will be composed in an ENTIRELY different fashion. The essays may have the same mandate but will look absolutely nothing alike in fashion.

  9. p.s. I'm in AFM which is basically math.

  10. @ 11:16, you should probably take your own advice there, champ. Preferably, take an English course and try cheating - whether or not you succeed, your literacy might improve as a side effect.

  11. Wow. Yeah I'm in Science but whoever said that there's generally one answer to a math problem is an ignorant moron. The people I live with are in math and math phys and that's not how it works at all.

P.S @ 1:14: AFM is not basically math.

  12. I'm in engineering but took electives in courses like psych. Yep, definitely easier to cheat in math/physics courses than ones that are more based on essays.

  13. AFM is basically math except for the strict business courses.

  14. if you can't do math, you wouldn't survive in afm...it's like a math degree that actually teaches you technical skills with practical application of mathematical concepts.

  15. afm is a joke you take all the easiest courses and say ur smart

  16. afm majors will probably make more than math majors, and cs majors will probably make more money than both of them. truth.

  17. it's math that actually is relevant in the real world

  18. Is there a reason to be academically honest?
Most of us are just doing this for the piece of paper and learning is secondary.

Not everyone, of course - some are more pragmatic than others, but I still say MOST won't use most of what we're being tested on

  19. Nah, if I were to make up statistics too I'd say that most of us are just doing this as a way to dick around for a few more years while appearing to be doing something useful.
