  1. ^^wow, bitter much? People like OP take their education seriously, which is a good thing. Not too many people appreciate what they're learning anymore...

  2. 11:13: Do you mean OP or 11:08? I hardly think "Must allow outright copying" is taking education seriously.

  3. Obviously when someone post on a website about wanting to copy assignments, they aren't actually doing it. People who actually are more discrete y'know!

  4. 4:39 PM: We take your concern very seriously. It is no fun at all when you have the impression that everybody else is cheating, and that that's the only way to be competitive.

Since cs136 was noted specifically, I'll tell you that we routinely check for plagiarism, and that there is no discretion at all on the penalty for first offence: 0 on the assignment, -5% of the final grade over and above the hit for the 0%, and academic probation for the remainder of the degree.

Furthermore, all submissions are permanently archived and we can and do look at previous submissions -- in the current and previous terms. So if you think you "got away with it" your celebration may be premature.

I have no idea if this blog entry is for real, but we are aware of the various media by which people cheat.

On-line testing is new for cs136, but has been used in cs241 for a few years. Every term a handful of cheaters are caught, but the majority clearly do their own work. This is evident from the submissions and from the activity on the newsgroup.
