  2. I don't know what you're all pissed about.
The fact that its even a tie is phenomenal, seeing as about four months ago when the motion was first proposed almost everyone on senate was in favour of shortening the week.

Ugrads pulled a major victory out of their asses today by persuading enough to make it a tie. You all better be damn happy.

  4. Senate results according to orientation week. Senate had proposed a motion to shorten the week and have class on the Thursday/Friday of Orienation instead of having a full week.

  9. The week isn't being shortened significantly. Yes, class would start on the Thursday / Friday, but with some rearrangement of the schedule, it would only result in about a half day of lost time (which is very minor).

  10. 1:28, do you realize that for some leaders this would mean three consecutive 6am - 2am days? Would you want to go to class after that? Would you want to miss a week of work for that?

Not all leaders are present from 6am to 2am; a shorter week would require management of existing volunteers, like splitting them into shifts. Looking at the present schedule, leaders work two consecutively at most days from 6am to 2am (assuming that the FOC intend to wipe out their leaders) which is not any different than the proposed plan (the exception being those students who are both faculty and residence leaders, which is a very small subset of all Orientation leaders)

As well, the first few days of classes tend to be less detailed than typical class days (going through course syllabus, and maybe introductory class work).

  12. 1:06,

"Not all leaders are present from 6am to 2am"
You're right, not all leaders are present, but I know that engineering Huges and Edcom would be.

"leaders work [at most] two [consecutive] days from 6am to 2am"
I only had one such day this past frosh week, and I would probably collapse if I had to go through three days of it. Also, there are certain groups of leaders that FOC relies heavily upon (Black Ties, Edcom) that they do wipe out because that's what they're there for. To do all the shit noone else wants to do. Those people are also recognized as highly reliable by FOC, so it's not like you can just recruit more at random.

With regard to the first few days of class... I've known profs to give assignments on the very first day. Yes, even to frosh.
