WTF: I'm a guy and the last few times I've worked cover at the bar I've only gotten tips from guys. For once can't a girl smile at me and give me a tip instead of some drunk closet homo laurier kid?

  5. I'm not going to tip someone who is taking money from me to get into a place where I'm going to spend money.

Why do you even expect people are going to tip you when you work cover?

  6. as someone else who works at a bar it doesn't matter where you work tips are a given. you make less than minimum wage working at a bar so your salary is dependent on tips. no tips and you make no money, it's the same as someone who works in a restaurant

  7. OP here, i do appreciate the tips don't get me wrong, i'm just saying it would be nice to not have some drunk laurier guy wearing a polo and a baseball hat coming over and telling me i'm the man while simultaneously spilling drinks all over me, it's bad enough i sit beside the door when it's minus 5 everynight

  9. i don't think it really matters as long as you give them something, everytime i go to the bar i always just give the 50 cents or a quarter change from my cover or coatcheck. i mean it's not like they're bartenders

  10. I tip the bartenders generously. They tip out to the rest of the staff.

I resent paying cover, and avoid it at every opportunity. There's no way in hell I'm paying $5 or $10 to get into a bar, only to have to pay $5 or $6 for every beer I drink (these are the places that don't even sell pitchers), tip the bartender a buck or two for every drink, AND pay some meat head to check my ID.

If you really want tips make it obvious. I didn't even know they were expected until right now. Put out a jar or something.
