I said this to myself maybe 2 years ago and I've improved quite a bit but at times I still crawl back to the deep dark place and hide. I wish I had a real answer for you.
I agree with 1:29 but at the same time you don't hang around those people in the first place because you are socially awkward. Just work your way up.
Being social is a skill that is learned and developed, just like anything. That's one thing UW probably won't teach you unless you get involved in extra curricular activities. Might be a good step if you have your head in the books too often
OP here. Most of my friends, if not all, are really outgoing. I think the main problem is me.
I get really quiet and freeze up when I'm around people my own age, or when I'm by myself. But I actually have no problem interacting with strangers or people older than me (most of the time in a work environment.)
I don't know what to do because it feels like I'm two different people and it's really distressing.
Hang around people who aren't. When you're around more outgoing people you'll get a better idea of how to interact with others.
ReplyDeleteFake it till it happens naturally. ;D

Drinking will only work against you if you're trying to develop your social prowess.
ReplyDeleteMaybe because your friends are too outgoing, you let yourself gets put on the back burner. Compete with them
ReplyDeleteyou know how you get to carnegie hall, don't you? practice.
ReplyDeleteWhatever you do, don't try to be someone you're not. Just be yourself.
ReplyDeleteI don't mind people that are socially awkward, infact I sometimes prefer them over more social people
ReplyDeletei dont think you being socially akward should be that much of a problem. i mean, at least 1/2 of uw is socially akward. . . including myself.
ReplyDeleteUW = socially awkward. The End.
