WTF: After reading mathNEWS, I almost think mathies deserve the "douchebag" label more than engineers

  1. I disagree. You see, they are just very, very lame. That's it. No douchebag-erry. Just lameness.

  7. Yeah, its a bunch of softies that write mathnews... hahah so it's engineering .. well partly engineers. They're engineers with an identity problem :P

  8. That actually might explain it.

It's weird that there were quite a few jabs at engineers as well as arts in it though....

Actually, if that is true, then what they said about engineering must be towards the strict math people and not soft eng. Weird.

  9. Would someone like to explain what exactly it is that is so douchebaggy about mathies from reading mathNEWS? We're Satirists who make fun of just about everyone, so if we made fun of you, either suck it up or explain your reasoning.

  10. it's true, mathNEWS doesn't pick on anyone in particular, they make fun of everyone equally.

  11. because you try and rehash old 4chan memes all the time like a bunch of 12 year olds and it isn't funny.

LMFAO IT'S OVER 9000!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 EPIC WIN XD

  12. I'd like to see people bitching here create a publication like mathnews, its prob not easy. My only gripe is the 5.50 per term fee? Like wtf.. seriously? It's printed on photocopy paper and not even real newsprint - imprint charges less and i dont think engineer pay for their newspaper, and those are on real newsprint!!

  13. They don't charge 5.50. thats just wrong. A portion of your mathsoc fee goes to math news, 2.50 at present I believe.

If you want that lowered collect a petition with 10% of math student signatures or petition mathsoc council to hold a referendum...

  14. I thought mathnews was written by reeling, monstrous keyboard mashers kept chained up in Imprint's basement. Huh.

  15. 4chan memes come up because oddly enough, geeks tend to quote those a lot. Most mathies I know DO quote things from the internet.

If you really dislike what you read in mathNEWS you're welcome to come and write something for us. Keep in mind we can only print that which we receive.

Anyway, the money we receive is a fraction of your mathSOC fees. We take about $3 or so, less than the Imprint I believe, and not from the entire campus. It's also in our constitution that we don't accept ad dollars, which is why we don't have any ads in mathNEWS either, unlike the other 2 campus papers.

As for the Imprint, most of that paper is a tragedy. There's a reason we make fun of it, and that's because it's absolutely atrocious. When I want news I read the Iron Warrior.

  16. ya that BEST column in imprint is the ultimate bs. just some girl writing her freaking diary. "me and my friend ashley are in a fight cuz i did something vry wrong"

  17. Haha, people here are missing the point. Who gives a shit about real newspaper? It's a satirical publication!

Also, i'm sure writing articles and actually producing any campus publication is alot of work, so those who haven't ever done it should stfu, especially if they don't like the quality of writing.

If you think imprint is crap, why don't you join - I'm sure you think you can do a better job, so prove it. For a school without any journalism type courses, the imprint does a pretty good job, not perfect, but better than other school newspapers.

  18. I thought Imprint was crap. So a few years ago I did actually join up/volunteer. After about 4 weeks I was so depressed I just stopped showing up. They were among the biggest douches I'd ever run into. They'd write up the dumbest most typo-riddled crap and then high five each other over how sooper smart they were. Oh, and they'd sit at a computer and mock all of the submissions and letters other students had submitted. This is what you pay for every term.

  19. Whoa, easy there sector_corrupt, nothing personal.. I just didn't notice the same sort of thing in the Iron Warrior, but I just glanced through both of them. They can say whatever they want, I don't care I probably won't be reading it again.

All of the mathies I've met in person actually range from "weird" to nice, while on the other side most engineers I've met are nice but the odd one is a douchebag. I haven't met any softengs yet....

  20. :P Softengs range from decent nerdy people to complete and utter douchebags. I'll admit I'm an egotistical prick, but besides that I'm a decent enough guy. :P
