WTF: I'm considering doing four classes instead of five this semester. Does anyone recommend this for achieving higher grades?

  1. Me too! My sister says that she's been doing better taking 4 classes each semester (she takes one or two in the summer).

But personally, I don't think taking five classes is too bad.

  2. Son you better take 4 if your even thinking about it. 5 is great, but your average can better with more focus on 4 ;)

  3. Depends what you want the grades for. Some professional and graduate schools will take into consideration that you had a lighter course load, so you'd need a big increase in grades for it to be worthwhile.

  4. ^ If i'm in second year, do co-op employers take this into consideration? :(

  5. If you're planning to take courses in the summer or whatever, I think it's a good idea. But if you're planning to actually tack another term on at the end of your fourth year I don't think employers like that so much.

  6. I'm planning on doing a summer semester and doing graduate studies after. Perhaps I should speak to the secretariat of graduate studies.

  7. I was GOING to drop a course last semester (before the deadline where it will show up on your transcript) but my friends talked me out of it saying "oh just stick it out"... well turns out i failed it, so fuck you guys

you still have a while to decide before it really matters, so wait until the last minute, you won't get your money back but you'll be able to decide better later on than now

  8. Depending on what you're doing you might be able to get away with it. If you spent your first year or two in a really heavy program and then sort of burnt out and switched to something easier you might be able to take four courses a semester for a few semesters without having to stay any extra time.

  9. I would definitely reccommend it. Since I have switched to four courses my average has shot up 5%.

  10. If you only have 4 lectures you can't be on Dean's Honours List even if you "make the grade" for it.

  11. Make sure you meet your faculty's residency requirement if it has one. (5.0 units or 10 courses in a year)

  12. 11.43 wrong info. as long as you are registered as full time student (at least 3 courses) you can receive the dean's honours list.
